The Westinghouse WGen9500DF is one of the most positively reviewed portable dual-fuel generators. It is a slightly upgraded version of the Westinghouse WGen9500 with dual-fuel capabilities and a slightly downgraded version of the Westinghouse WGen9500DFc without a carbon monoxide sensor.
With a powerful 457cc OHV 4-stroke engine, 12500 surge watts, 9500 running watts on gasoline, 11200 surge watts, and 8500 running watts on propane, this generator is set to run your entire house or any appliance you want to run.

Westinghouse WGen9500DF Review
Don’t expect it to be a whole house or standby generator; the Westinghouse WGen9500DF is rather a dependable portable power source or a backup power source for large homes. Whole-house generators are more powerful and silent.
So anyway, out of the box, you will get a measured oil bottle, a user manual, some useful tools, a spark plug wrench, a funnel, a remote, a propane regulator, and a battery float charger.
The control panel is loaded with buttons and outlets. Your push-button starter, indicator light, battery charging port, rain cover, VFT meter, and everything else are on the control panel.
The first impression was awesome. This thing has never-flat wheels, a handle, and a lift bracket to make it portable.
The design is compact, which makes it portable, but it is a bit heavy and impossible to move it around without the support of the wheels, as expected from a 10000-watt generator.
A generator is measured by its power output, noise levels, and durability. So, firstly, I will check its noise levels.
Noise Test Of Westinghouse WGen9500DF:
I knew it would not be as ultra-quiet as a standby generator or a HONDA generator. With high power output, noise tends to increase as well. So don’t expect a super-silent machine.
- Firstly, from a distance of 20 feet under 50% load, I was getting 79 to 80 dB (A).
- Secondly, from a distance of 20 feet under no load, I was getting 74 to 76 dB (A).
- Lastly, from a distance of 30 feet under 50% load, I was getting 75 to 76 dB (A).
74 to 75 dB (A) is the average noise produced by the Westinghouse WGen9500DF dual-fuel generator. There was pin-drop silence in my backyard so you should expect a better performance.
Load Test Of Westinghouse WGen9500DF:
On gasoline, I gave it a load of a 6000-watt dryer, a small AC, a heater, and other small appliances. The total output watts I was getting from the generator were 9390 running watts. I was very careful not to shoot the peak watts beyond 12500.
So the generator produced a maximum of 12410 peak watts and a constant of 9390 watts. There is no overload alarm at this point.
The generator was approximately 35 feet away from the control panel, and I was inside the whole time, and there wasn’t any significant noise getting to me.
I haven’t pushed the limit on propane yet, but I am sure I can manage to get close to 8400 watts.
Runtime And Capacity:
So Westinghouse WGen9500DF generator is supposed to run 12 hours at 25% load 8 hours at 50% on gasoline, and 7 hours at 50% load on propane.
First I tried that theory on propane by giving it a 55% load of the trailer. It ran for 7 hours and 5 minutes before the cylinder emptied.
Later, on gasoline at 55% load of my trailer, I ran for 12 hours and 6 minutes on full. I was using non-ethanol fuel.
It is a very economical and efficient generator. Westinghouse WGen9500DF can easily overcome overnight power failure.
I was expecting this economic performance, because the generator technology has so much improved in HONDA, Champion, Generac, and other models.
They are manufacturing higher power output in a compact body. Westinghouse is in the race with those other brands in terms of fuel economy, portability, and high power output.
What Are The Cons Of the Westinghouse WGen9500DF Generator?
This generator is a bit heavy and loud which is to be expected, but it doesn’t have a carbon monoxide sensor like its upgraded model “Westinghouse WGen9500DFcâ€.
Carbon monoxide is a colorless, odorless, and poisonous gas that can kill in an instant if you breathe it too much. CO sensors automatically shut down the generator if the CO concentration increases.
Always use the generator outside away from the vents and windows with proper ventilation if your machine doesn’t have a CO sensor, or you don’t have a CO alarm in your home.
